Drumming and its Benefits

Rhythm of the Drum

Majority of people have a Genre of Music that they can relate to, anything from Hip-Hop to Orchestral.  The common denominator that is within all music is the beat, the thing that gets you clapping your hands and tapping your feet. In todays culture you also have Beatboxing (vocal percussion).

Anyone can drum, you do not need to read music, be a certain gender, race or age. Drumming is a universal language and is practiced in most cultures.

Studies have shown that drumming relaxes your mental state, it reduces anxiety, stress and lowers your blood pressure.

Drumming can also increase alpha waves in the brain which in turn calms the mind to achieve a meditative state.

Group drumming creates a sense of community and can be a powerful shared experience. It teaches us to work together and to listen to each other, it helps with communication and involvement in being part of a group.

On a personal level a drum circle also helps you to connect with your own spirit at a deeper level.

Drumming connects us to rhythm, rhythm is all around us, all the natural cycles, the sun, moon, seasons have rhythm and through drumming and the vibration it creates it brings our bodies into a natural rhythm.

A drummer beats the drum and the drum speaks back, this is a great form of self expression and self realisation.

Through drumming people can hear you and you can be heard. It is a non verbal language where you can express yourself.

Drumming is fun, it releases endorphins that make you feel happy and being part of a drum group makes it even more enjoyable.
